A Final Cut Pro library stores three kinds of files that can be regenerated: render files, optimized media and proxy media. On long projects (like a 2-hour podcast) they can outweigh the original footage.
Delete generated files
Safe1. In Final Cut, select the library in the sidebar. 2. Choose File → Delete Generated Library Files. 3. Check Delete Render Files (All) and, if you don't use them, optimized and proxy media. 4. Click OK.
Final Cut regenerates them when it needs them.
Libraries for finished projects
Your files: reviewIf the episode is already published, move the library to an external drive. Before deleting it from your Mac, make sure the copy opens correctly from the external drive.
FAQ
Does this delete my original footage?
No. "Delete Generated Library Files" only removes what Final Cut creates from your media: renders, optimized and proxy files.
